About
All 825 weapons in EDF 4.1, sorted by class and category
There are 825 weapons in total, 24 of them DLC. Ranger (197), Wing Diver (179), Air Raider (286) and Fencer (163) are laid out across 31 categories, so whatever you're hunting for has an obvious place to be.
Tap the weapon name to flip between collected and missing
There's no small checkbox to aim at â the name itself is the target, which keeps it reliable on a phone.
Collection rates are calculated for you
Percentages appear per class and per category, making it obvious which part of your arsenal you've been neglecting.
Your checkmarks are saved in the browser automatically
No account, no login. Reopen the page and you pick up exactly where you left off.
Levels and DLC badges tell you what you're looking at
Each name carries its level, and the 24 DLC weapons are badged, so you can tell at a glance whether a weapon belongs to content you own.
Switch to a view that groups weapons by series
Weapons from the same series sit together, which makes the gaps within a series far easier to spot.
Bulk actions and expand controls keep 825 entries manageable
Check or clear everything from a menu, and open or collapse all categories at once, so the sheer size of the list never slows you down.
Basic Usage
- Pick a class (Ranger, Wing Diver, Air Raider, or Fencer) from the tabs at the top
- Click the name of a weapon you have picked up to mark it collected (â)
- Click again to clear it back to not collected
Bulk Actions
- Press 'Bulk Actions' in a class heading to open the menu. It affects only the weapons in that class
- 'Mark all as collected' checks off every weapon in that class
- 'Clear all' removes every mark in that class
Display Options
- With 'Group by subcategory' on, a subheading is inserted for each weapon series
- Turning it off gives you a single continuous list across series, handy for browsing by level
- Click a category heading to expand or collapse that category
- Use 'Expand All' and 'Collapse All' to do it across the selected class
- Both the grouping setting and your collapsed sections are saved in the browser
Reading the Rate
- The progress bar at the top shows your overall rate across all four classes, not just the class you have selected
- Counts for each class and category appear in their respective headings
- To match the rate shown in game, the 24 DLC weapons are left out of the total, leaving 801. Collecting them does not move the rate
- Tracking which weapons you have collected on the way to 100%
- Spotting which class and category still have gaps
- Narrowing down which weapons to chase before an armor or weapon farming run
- Checking how much you have gathered across Inferno runs
- Comparing collection rates with friends
- and more
Where is my progress saved?
In your browser's local storage. No account or sign-in is needed, but as a result your progress does not carry over to another device or browser, and clearing your browsing data will erase it.
What is the collection rate calculated out of?
801. To match the rate shown in game, the 24 DLC weapons are excluded from the total. The list covers 825 weapons, but you can still reach 100% without buying any DLC.
What does the DLC badge mean?
It marks the 24 weapons released as add-on content. They are excluded from the collection rate, so picking them up does not move your percentage.
What does 'Group by subcategory' change?
It toggles the headings that group weapons of the same series. Grouping is on by default, adding subheadings for series such as assault rifles and sniper rifles. Turning it off gives you a single list across series, which is handy when browsing by level.
Are collapsed sections and display settings saved too?
Yes. Separately from your collection progress, the browser records which categories are collapsed and whether 'Group by subcategory' is on. The selected class tab is not saved, so the list always opens on Ranger.
Do bulk actions apply only to the class I'm viewing?
'Bulk Actions' affects only the weapons under the class heading you pressed, and leaves your other classes untouched. 'Expand All' and 'Collapse All' likewise apply only to the class currently selected. There is no way to operate on all four classes at once, so run them class by class.
Is my EDF5 progress kept separately?
Yes. The EDF5 weapon list on this site (1,183 weapons) and this EDF4.1 list use separate storage, so neither affects the other.
Does it list damage, reload time, or other stats?
No. This is a collection checklist, and it shows only the weapon name, level, and source.
Can I track â (fully upgraded) weapons?
This EDF4.1 list is a simple collected / not collected toggle. Weapon upgrading was introduced in EDF5, so â tracking is available in the EDF5 weapon list instead.
Can I change the quote in the header?
Press the circular arrow button below the quote to draw another. Lines are picked at random from what EDF troopers say on the battlefield, and the same one never appears twice in a row.
It Started With Giant Robots
Developer Sandlot was founded in 2001 by staff who had left Human Entertainment after making the robot-piloting game Remote Control Dandy. The name means "vacant lot," carrying the idea of doing whatever seems fun, the way kids do in an empty field. The Earth Defense Force series began as a low-budget project built by reusing the engine from Sandlot's own giant-robot game Gigantic Drive. That heritage is why buildings crumble and whole cities become the battlefieldâthe technology was originally written to let a giant robot rampage through them.
Born as a Budget Title
The Earth Defense Force line began in 2003 as part of SIMPLE2000, a range of cheap Japanese budget releases selling for roughly 2,000 yen. What started as an inexpensive experiment caught on, and the series eventually shed its bargain-bin branding to stand on its own as a full-price release. EDF4.1's 825 weapons and 89 missions are the far end of that trajectory. Sandlot still employs only around 25 people, which makes the sheer volume of content here more surprising, not less.
The Game That Completed the Roster
The four-class lineup of Ranger, Wing Diver, Air Raider, and Fencer was settled in EDF4, and 4.1 inherits that roster wholesale. Air Raider is the support role who calls in airstrikes and cruise missiles and summons vehicles, while Fencer is the heavy assault class wielding a weapon in each hand from inside a power suit. Air Raider's outsized count of 286 weapons comes from carrying requested strikes, deployable emplacements, and rideable vehicles all under one class, which is also why it leads on categories with ten. This is less a matter of more soldiers than of four genuinely different ways to fight.
Robot Versus Kaiju
The headline addition in 4.1 is the monster Erginus and the walking fortress Balam. Erginus is a single enormous kaiju rather than another swarm, and the countermeasure sent against it is Balam, a bipedal giant robot officially described as an unfinished prototypeâthe first time the series staged a proper robot-versus-monster fight. The four-legged Depth Crawler, which can be piloted underground, joined the arsenal at the same time. For a studio that got its start making giant-robot games, it reads as a return to first principles more than a decade later.
Why the Odd ".1"
Released for PlayStation 4 in 2015, 4.1 is a rebuild of EDF4 running in full HD at 60 frames per second, with roughly half the existing missions reworkedâenemy placement, spawn counts, and attack patterns all rearranged. The underground missions had their lighting stripped out and turned pitch black, making familiar tunnels genuinely frightening again. Despite all that, it stayed a point release rather than becoming a numbered sequel, because it was positioned strictly as an enhanced version of the same game. The subtitle, The Shadow of New Despair, keeps the word the series has built its identity on.
Unsealing Finished Episodes
EDF4.1 restores several episodes that had been built for EDF4 and then left unreleasedâwhole stretches of finished work that had sat unseen until the remake gave them a way out. Roughly half the existing missions were also rebuilt, with enemy placements and spawn counts reworked, so standing in familiar terrain no longer means facing a familiar battle. The underground nests went furthest of all: the lights were cut, leaving troopers to pick their way through pitch darkness by the beam of a personal flashlight.
The Two You Cannot Get
The game's internal data contains 827 weapons, but only 825 are obtainable. The missing pair are the Genocide Gun and the Armageddon Clusterâfinished data that was walled off because the weapons would simply break the game's balance. Internally they carry the same acquisition flag as DLC weapons, so that field alone cannot tell them apart from legitimate downloadable content. With names like those, it is not hard to see why they stayed sealed.
They Ordered Wasp Specimens
The staff member responsible for modelling the giant creatures has said he could never quite picture the underside of a wasp, so he ordered real specimens to study them properly. That is research conducted for the belly of a minor enemy the player crushes underfoot in a second. The art director has separately described the team's fixation on making backgrounds that convey the feeling of defending your own townâso the broad, cheerful chaos on screen rests on a good deal of patient checking against the real thing.
What the Troopers Say
Your NPC squadmates never stop talking, and their chatter has become one of the series' signatures. One trooper delivers the classic doomed-soldier line about getting married when the fighting is over, only to have it dismissed on the spot as bad luck to say out loud. Screams and battle cries pile on top of each other until a hopeless situation somehow sounds cheerful. The troopers talk on their own, raise their own morale, and get eaten entirely on their own schedule.
A Divisive Reputation
By review scores alone, 4.1 landed around the middle of the pack rather than among the acclaimed. Critics faulted its rough edges and inconsistent frame rate, while others called it a fantastic example of everything that makes pure action gaming funâthe split is unusually stark. It comes down to whether you read the cheapness and the excess as flaws or as the entire point. Given that the series was born on a bargain label, that polarized standing feels about right.
One Man Writes Every Line
The radio chatter across the battlefield, the squadmate banter, the weapon descriptionsâall of the series' text is written by one person, Takehiro Homma. Each installment adds missions and weapons, so the volume only climbs. He has also described a recurring surprise: thinking he has come up with a fresh line, then replaying an older game and finding a trooper already saying it. The writer can no longer keep track of how much he has written.
Twenty Years of Making Bugs
Daido Tomita, who handles character modelling, marked the series' twentieth anniversary by observing that he had spent twenty years making ants. Sustaining a series about fighting giant creatures means, in practice, building insects day after day after day. The story about ordering wasp specimens comes from the same manâsomeone willing to buy the real thing to get a shape right, repeated over two decades.
Rushed Designs That Endured
Art director Masatsugu Igarashi has admitted that the characters in the first game were drawn in a hurry, with no time to spare. Those hasty designs then went on to survive through ports and sequels for years afterwards. Lines sketched under deadline pressure ended up becoming the face of the series.
Data Nobody Could Open
When the team went looking for their old model data at the twenty-year mark, they found that no software capable of opening it still existed anywhere. The staff member responsible dug out an old machine running Windows XP and finally reached the files that way, remarking that the sheer slowness of it brought home how much time had passed. Opening their own back catalogue had become an excavation.
The Freedom of a Budget Label
Game director Toshio Noguchi looks back on the SIMPLE2000 line, where the series began, as a format with unusual freedomâone that let the team build things exactly as they pleased and enjoy doing it. A cheap project drew little interference, so they could chase what they wanted. The sharp, unusual feel born in that environment is what survives undiluted in 4.1, long after the series went full-price.
