Wish Options

Recommended Wishes

• Choose Ancient Shield 2 times
• This wish is the only way to get the Old shield
• Of the party members available once you can fight the Egg Dragon, only Guy and Arty can equip it, so 2 are enough
• Its IP skill Ancient power halves damage taken for 5 turns, which also helps in the Egg Dragon battle
• You can get 1 of every ring in a set of Super Rings from chests in the Sealed Towers or Dragon Mountain, so you can skip this wish unless you need a 2nd copy
• Enemies drop all of the potions and fruits, so you can skip these wishes

After 4 Wishes

• You can fight the Egg Dragon
• The battle needs no eggs, and you can challenge it as many times as you like
• Only your first win over the Egg Dragon earns you the Egg sword and Egg ring

Assumptions

• This assumes your first attempt, so items earned by beating the Egg Dragon are not used
• The aim is not the fastest kill but a setup that balances offense and defense
• See the Fastest Kill section for how to win as quickly as possible

Egg Dragon Traits

• HP 65535, ATP 1500, DFP 500, AGL 510, MGR 510
• Takes 2x damage from dark-element attacks and from attacks that are effective against dragons or flying enemies
• Takes half damage from the fire, water, ice, thunder, and light elements, and earthquake has no effect
• Immune to all status ailments
• IP skills that deal damage based on a fraction of remaining HP do work

How to Fight

• On turn 1, have all 4 party members use a defensive IP skill
• Keep Maxim's Miracle care and Guy's Ancient power active at all times, so these 2 stay standing and can revive the others
• Revive fallen party members right away
• Selan and Arty use Battle fury whenever their IP has built up
• Over-easy hits the whole party and causes confusion, so all 4 party members should wear helmets that prevent confusion
• Confusion is the only status ailment the Egg Dragon uses, so there is no need to prepare for any others

Conditions for the Recommended Equipment

The recommended equipment below was chosen under these conditions

• Don't use items from blue chests in the Ancient Cave
• Don't use items from the chests beyond the world's hardest puzzle on Dragon Mountain
• Don't use the Ancient Cave clear rewards
• Don't use the Egg ring or Egg sword
• Bring at least 10 Miracle items
• Don't use items that enemies drop only on very rare occasions
• Level 70 or higher is recommended

Recommended Equipment

Why the Recommended Equipment

• Dragon blade: 25% chance of a 3x critical hit that ignores DFP, and its IP skill Dragonfire deals 3x ATP to dragons
• Flying ax: Deals 2x damage to flying enemies, and its IP skill Deadly smash deals 6x ATP
• Bunny sword: Its IP skill Battle fury deals damage equal to 1/4 of remaining HP (normal attacks have no effect, so focus on the IP skill)
• Pearl shield: Its IP skill Miracle care blocks all damage for 5 turns
• Old shield: Its IP skill Ancient power halves damage taken for 5 turns
• Gold gloves: Its IP skill Flame guard halves fire damage for 5 turns
• Pearl helmet, Jute helmet, Bunny ears: Prevent confusion from Over-easy
• Angry ring, Fury ring: Their IP skill Dread can lower DFP, and IP also builds up faster
• Only 1 Angry ring is available, so Selan takes the Fury ring
• Gorgon rock: Its IP skill Ax attack deals damage equal to 1/8 of remaining HP (1 comes from a chest on Dragon Mountain, and Gorgon drops the other 1)

Assumptions

• Use every item you can carry out, including items earned by beating the Egg Dragon, Ancient Cave items, and rare drops
• Level 99, with no stat boosts from potions
• Boosting stats with potions can shorten the kill even further, down to 2 turns
• All 4 party members start the battle with 255 IP
• This assumes the Egg Dragon uses Over-easy on turn 1 and Sunny-side up on turn 2

Why the Fastest Kill Equipment

• Lizard blow: Its IP skill Dragon rush deals 6x ATP to dragons
• Gades blade: Its IP skill Octo-strike attacks 8 times
• Bunny sword: Its IP skill Battle fury deals damage equal to 1/4 of remaining HP
• Zirco shield: Its IP skill Beserker raises the whole party's ATP
• Jute helmet, Old helmet, Bunny ears: Prevent confusion from Over-easy
• Egg ring: Raises AGL by 999, making Maxim the only one who can act before the Egg Dragon
• Dragon ring: Hits 1–7 of Octo-strike deal 2x damage to dragons
• Angry ring, Fury ring: Raise GUT, and IP builds up faster when taking damage
• Evil jewel (cursed): The version before the curse is removed, raising ATP by 120, the most of any jewel
• Black eye: Raises STR, AGL, GUT, and MGR by 20
• With his armor and shield removed, Maxim's IP builds up faster

Missing Eggs!

• When eggs are placed again, one can occasionally end up in a chest in an area you can't reach
• Before having a wish granted, also save to a separate save slot

Battle fury Has No Effect on a Full-HP Egg Dragon

• Battle fury (1/4 of remaining HP) heals an enemy with 65036 or more HP remaining, dealing 0 damage
• This happens because the power value grows too large and the damage is treated as healing
• The Egg Dragon is the only enemy with HP this high
• Have someone deal 500 or more damage first, then use it
• Selan and Arty act first on turn 1, so use the Bunny sword's Battle fury from turn 2 on
• This doesn't happen with Battlecry (1/6)

How to Do It

• Use a healing spell or item on the Egg Dragon while its HP is full
• Its HP drops to the amount healed minus 1, so finish it off with normal attacks
• Example: Healing 100 with Strong takes its HP from 65535 to 99

How It Works

• HP can only count up to 65535, and if healing pushes it past that, the count starts over from 0
• The Egg Dragon is the only enemy with 65535 max HP, so this doesn't happen with other enemies
